Why your personal brand is the most valuable asset in the age of artificial intelligence


I believe artificial intelligence will not destroy our need for personal connection, humanity, story, and expression.

The reason why I believe this so strongly is because of one sentence.

culture.

When people talk about artificial intelligence, they underestimate the power of culture.

Like shared values ​​and thinking. It’s the slow, invisible force that determines what truly stays in our lives and what doesn’t.

This is what most people miss. When something new arrives, it must first pass the test of culture before anything can be changed. And culture develops slowly.

How things become normal

Think about how anything new spreads. Early adopters are the first to use it. But it’s not yet mainstream. And as long as it’s not mainstream, we don’t know its true cultural impact.

Here’s what researchers say diffusion of innovation. New ideas move along a predictable S-curve from a small group of experimenters to the masses. A slow start, a steep climb, and then a plateau once something becomes fully integrated into daily life.

Take the five-day work week, for example. We treat it as if it has always been there. not yet. Henry Ford announced the plan in 1922 and it was implemented in 1926.

Before that, six-day, sixty-hour days were the norm. It took decades to go from a radical idea to one we now consider untouchable.

Social media did the same thing. It started as a way to connect with people you really knew. Then it slowly changes the way we talk, date, argue, shop and see ourselves. No one decides this. It permeated the culture over the years.

Or look at alcohol. Going out for drinks has long been a way for young people to connect. Now the coffee shop is booming.

Sobriety is becoming normal. An entire fitness culture exploded, creating new brands and a wave of millionaires selling supplements, clothes, and healthier lifestyles.

None of these transformations happened overnight. Slowly, then suddenly all of a sudden.

AI is going through this right now

we have AI It’s been in our hands for about four years. The culture around it was just starting to form.

This shift will take five to ten years to achieve stable public opinion. We are in the middle of chaos.

What I see is a lot of resistance. There is strong opposition to the idea that artificial intelligence can replace humans. I understand why. The word artificial intelligence itself is unsettling.

Artificial intelligence knows everything that has ever been recorded. But this is looking backward, not forward.

It remixes something that already exists. It’s perfect for DJing. The perfect mixer. But it didn’t create a new genre. It did not invent new art forms.

This distinction is more important than people realize.

What I’ve learned from using artificial intelligence a lot

In recent weeks, I’ve been automating work that previously required a three-person team.

Arrangement, repurposing, proofreading, references, visuals, titles. Most of the production work has now been completed.

The only thing I actually did was write this article.

But this is key. What you are reading is still me. These are my thoughts, my thoughts, my experiences. Artificial intelligence helps make it beautiful. This part can be automated. Thoughts cannot.

I see the same thing happening in my family business, a traditional company that sells industrial laundry equipment. We are automating:

  • Invoicing and bookkeeping
  • Part of the sales process
  • Notes and follow-up

All the annoying parts of the job. The part that no one really wants to do.

Artificial intelligence is getting better at taking over jobs we wouldn’t otherwise want to do. This is what everyone wanted all along.

The economy is shifting from needs to wants

When everyone has access to the same tools, abilities are no longer special. It becomes the baseline. If everyone could use artificial intelligence to write clean emails, design graphics, or launch products, those things would no longer set you apart.

So what’s left?

your name. your reputation. your taste. your point of view. Reasons for someone to choose you over the automatic version.

It’s no longer a question of whether we can replace someone. We can.

Now the real question is different: Do we want it?

This is the answer to personal branding. It’s not about being famous. It’s about being wanted. When you have a strong personal brand, people want more than just getting the job done. They want you to be the one who does it.

In a world where anyone can do anything, being wanted is the only real security.

Build your brand. Share your thoughts. Put your name on your work. Let people see the humanity behind it.
