Richard Harris is an Irish actor and singer. He played Corrado Zeller in Michelangelo Antonioni’s “The Red Desert,” and Frank Machin in “Sportsman,” for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, and played King Arthur in the 1967 film “Camelot” and the 1981 revival of the stage musical.
Harris’ first starring role was in the film This Sporting Life (1963), playing Frank Machin, a bitter young coal miner who later became an acclaimed rugby league footballer. The film is adapted from the novel by David Story and directed by Lindsay Anderson. For this role, Harris won Best Actor at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award.
