Joy Harjo was an American poet, musician, playwright, and author. She is the current U.S. Poet Laureate and the first Native American to receive this honor. She is also the second Poet Laureate Poet Advisor to serve three terms. Harjo has been praised for the depth and thematic focus of her work.
